Judge William L. DeProspo: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. William L. DeProspo is a judge for the Orange County Court in the Ninth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the seat in 2017.

He is a registered Republican.

Judge DeProspo received his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts in 1980. He went on to earn his J.D. from Western New England College in 1983.

While attending law school, DeProspo served as an intern with the New York State Attorney General’s Office in 1982. Then, after graduating from law school, he went to work as an assistant district attorney with the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, where he remained until 1988.

At that time, DeProspo left the public sector to enter into private practice. He first worked as a partner at Finkelstein, Levine, Gittelsohn, and Tetenbaum before becoming a founding partner at DeProspo, Petrizzo, Longo, and Bartlett in 1995.

During his tenure in private practice, DeProspo also served as a hearing officer with the New York State Civil Service Commission and was the chairman of the Orange County Republican Committee for ten years.

He was also a judicial delegate for the Ninth Judicial District from 2000 to 2016.

His memberships have included the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, and past president of the Central Orange Italian American Club.
