Judge Timothy S. Driscoll - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Timothy S. Driscoll is a Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court, Commercial Division in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2008. During his tenure on the bench, Justice Driscoll has also presided in the Nassau County Matrimonial Center.

Justice Driscoll received his B.A. from Hofstra University in 1988. He went on to earn his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1991.

After graduating from law school, Driscoll began a year-long clerkship with the Hon. Joseph M. McLaughlin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Then, after completing his clerkship, he entered into private practice, joining the law firm Williams and Connolly in 1992, where he practiced as an associate for four years.

Driscoll left the private sector in 1996 to join the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, where he helped prosecute cases involving burglary, robbery, narcotics, and DWI’s. He served as an assistant district attorney there until 2000. At that time, he became an assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. In that role, Driscoll served as federal prosecutor in cases involving violent crimes such as murder, narcotics distribution, and gun possession. He also prosecuted white collar crimes including wire fraud, mail fraud and health care fraud cases. In 2004, Driscoll left the Department of Justice to join the Office of the County Executive in Nassau County, where he served as the deputy county executive for Law Enforcement and Public Safety until his election to the Supreme Court. During his tenure there, he was tasked with overseeing all of the public safety and law enforcement agencies in Nassau County.

Justice Driscoll has also served as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School since 1998 and served as a teaching member for Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop in 2003, 2006, and 2007.

His memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Irish Americans in Government, the Holy Trinity High School Alumni Association, and past president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Nassau County.

He has also served as a co-chair of the Chief Administrative Judge’s Working Group on Electronic Discovery, a member of the Chief Judge’s Advisory Council on Commercial Litigation in New York State, and as co-chair of the Subcommittee on Alternative Dispute Resolution.
