Judge Theodore S. Booras - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Theodore S. Booras is a judge for the Palm Beach County Court in Florida. He was elected to the bench in 2006 and re-elected in 2012 and 2018.

Booras earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1983. He then completed a J.D. at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law, in 1986.

After graduating from law school, Booras entered into private practice, specializing in criminal defense and appellate matters. He started as an associate at Salnick & Krischer, where he spent two years before opening his own private practice as a sole practitioner. Then, in 1993, Booras joined the Office of the State Attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. As an assistant state attorney, Booras authored and argued motions that have formed the law on the admissibility of field sobriety tests and as well control test procedures.

He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Palm Beach County Traffic Safety Commission (1986, 1993, 1996), the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Florida Treasure Coast MADD (1995), the Publication Award from the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association (2005), the Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Florida Wildlife Commission (2006), and the Judicial Achievement Award from the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency (2012).

Booras was raised in Broward County, Florida, and attended high school in Dania Beach. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (1975 to 1979). He also served as Captain for the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary.
