Judge Sean E. Armstrong - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Sean E. Armstrong is a judge for the 3rd Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon in Marion County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown in 2016, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Dennis Graves (Ret.).

Prior to his appointment, Armstrong was a judge pro tem for the 3rd Judicial District Circuit Court, having volunteered in the position for three years. He was also a shareholder at Garrett Hemann Robertson PC, where he had practiced since 2004. Before that, Armstrong was an associate at Clark Lindauer Fetherston Edmonds & Lippold.

He received a bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary in 1992. Armstrong went on to complete a J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School.

He was admitted to practice in Oregon (2001), the United States District Court for the District of Oregon (2001), and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (2002).

Armstrong is a past president of the Marion County Bar Association.

At the time of his appointment, Armstrong resided in Salem, Oregon. Before pursuing his legal career, he worked as a police officer with the Alexandria Police Department in Virginia (1994 to 2000).
