Judge Scott K. Field - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Scott. K. Field is a judge for the 480th District Court of Texas in Williamson County. He was appointed to the newly-created bench by Governor Greg Abbott on October 1, 2022.

The 480th District Court was created by the 87th Legislature as a court of general jurisdiction and hears primarily civil and family cases.

Prior to his appointment, Field was a partner at Butler Snow, LLP since 2019, where he practiced in the appellate advocacy and commercial litigation groups. Before joining the firm, he spent six years as a justice of the Texas Third District Court of Appeals in Austin (2013 to 2018).

His private practice experience also includes serving as a managing partner at the Field Law Firm, PLLC (2007 to 2012), a co-founder and managing partner at York, Keller & Field, LLP (2001 to 2007), and as an associate at Baker Botts, LLP (1996 to 2001).

Field received a B.A. in political science from Texas A&M University in 1992. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Texas School of Law in 1995. Field was named to the Order of the Coif.

After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as a law clerk to the Hon. Raul Gonzalez with the Texas Supreme Court (1995 to 1996).

His memberships include the Austin Bar Association, the Austin Bar Foundation, the Robert W. Calvert American Inn of Court, the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Aggie Bar Association, the Federalist Society, the Texas Bar Foundation (Fellow), the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society, the University of Texas School of Law Aggie Law Society, the Williamson County Bar Association, and the Austin Christian Legal Society. Field is also a member of the Texas School of Law Mentoring Program and Austin Baptist Church.

A native Texan, he was born in Houston and raised outside of College Station. Field resides in Liberty Hill with his wife Melinda. They have three grown children.
