Judge Scott A. Farr - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Scott A. Farr is a judge for the Hillsborough County Court in Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Charlie Crist in 2010.

He has held assignments in the Civil Division (2010 to 2015), the Family Law-Domestic Violence Division (2010 to 2015), and the Criminal Division (present).

Prior to his appointment, Farr worked as a Chief Assistant Attorney General in the Florida Office of the Attorney General, a position to which he was named in 1994. Before that, he spent time as a partner at Zelman & Farr (1990 to 1991) and Cotter, Valerino, Zelman & Farr (1992 to 1994).

Farr earned a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law in 1982.

He is admitted to practice in Florida, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

After graduating from law school, Farr began his legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity until 1986, at which time he became an assistant statewide prosecutor for the Florida Office of Statewide Prosecution in Orlando.

His memberships have included the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association, the Ferguson-White American Inn of Court, the Herbert G. Goldburg Criminal Law Inn of Court, and the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units.

Farr attends St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
