Biography

The Hon. Russell L. Healey is a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Rick Scott in 2014, filling a vacancy created by the passing of the Hon. Jean Johnson.


The 4th Judicial Circuit encompasses Clay County, Duval County, and Nassau County. Healey has held assignments in Duval County, presiding over cases in the Criminal Division, the Civil Division, the Family Division, and the Juvenile Division.


Prior to his appointment, Healey was a judge for the Duval County Court, a position to which he was named by former Governor Jeb Bush in 2002. Before that, he was a partner at Mahon, Mahon & Healey (1988 to 2002).


Healey earned a B.S. from the University of South Florida in 1977. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1980. He is Board Certified in Marital and Family Law by the Florida Bar (1994).


After graduating from law school, Healey began his legal career as an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity for three years, holding assignments in the Felony Division and the Special Prosecution Division. Then, in 1984, he entered into private practice. He co-founded Tassone & Healey, where he specialized in criminal defense, family law, collections, and general litigation matters.


His memberships have included the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, and the Florida Family Law Inns of Court. He has served on the Support Committee of the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar and the Litigation Committee of the Conference of County Court Judges, and he has chaired the Duval County Canvassing Board, the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee of the Florida Bar Association, and the Family Law Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association.


He has been involved with the Catholic Lawyers Guild, the Jacksonville Planning Commission (1992 to 1999), the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (2001 to 2002), the Stewardship Committee of the San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church, and the Board of Directors of the San Jose Country Club.


Healey was born in Jacksonville, Florida.
