Judge Ronald N. Ficarrotta - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Ronald N. Ficarrotta is a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Hillsborough County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jeb Bush in 1999.

Ficarrotta has held assignments in the Probate, Guardianship, Mental Health and Trust, Civil, Domestic Violence, Criminal, Juvenile Delinquency, and Asbestos Litigation Divisions. He was also elected to serve as chief judge of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in 2015 and again in 2019. As such, Ficarrotta is credited with establishing the Mental Health Court Division. He began his judicial career as a judge for the Hillsborough County Court after receiving an appointment to the seat by former Governor Lawton Chiles in 1994.

Ficarrotta received a B.S. in advertising from the University of Florida in 1979. He went on to complete a J.D. at South Texas College of Law Houston in 1982. That same year, he attended Magdalen College in Oxford, England, where he earned a diploma in international law.

After law school, Ficarrotta joined the Office of the State Attorney for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, where he worked as an assistant state attorney. During his tenure there, he rose through the ranks to become chief of the Felony Division.

His memberships included the Florida Conference of Circuit Court Judges (chair), the Trial Court Budget Commission (executive committee), the Florida Clerks of Court Operations Corporation, the Florida Court Technology Commission, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Florida Bar Association.

Ficarrotta is a native of Tampa, Florida.
