Judge Lawrence J. Brennan: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Lawrence J. Brennan (Ret.) was a judge for the Nassau County Family Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He joined the Family Court in 1997. He retired in 2006.

During his tenure on the bench, Brennan served as administrative judge of the Nassau County Courts and was an acting justice of the New York State Supreme Court.

Brennan received a B.S. in English from St. Joseph’s University. He also holds an M.S. in special education from Hofstra University. He went on to complete a J.D. at St. John’s University School of Law.

Prior to joining the judiciary, Brennan served as chief deputy county attorney with the Office of the Nassau County Attorney, where he handled litigation and appeals. He worked as a private practice attorney for ten years before joining the County Attorney’s Office.

He also taught as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University School of Law and at the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Touro Law Center.

Brennan was a past president of the Theodore Roosevelt American Inn of Court. He also served as a past president of the board of directors of the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island and director and treasurer of the Central Property Owners’ Association.

Brennan served as a coach for boys and girls basketball, soccer, softball, and baseball teams and was a founding board member of the Nassau County Sports Commission.
