Judge Kelly A. Ayers - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Kelly A. Ayers is a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Hillsborough County. She was elected to the bench on August 18, 2020.

Prior to her election, Ayers worked as an attorney in private practice. She has owned three law firms, where she handled civil and criminal litigation as well as family law and dependency cases. Ayers supplemented her practice with service as a volunteer with Bay Area Legal Service.

Ayers earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications from the University of Florida in 1990. She then completed a J.D. at Stetson University College of Law in 1994.

Born and raised in Hillsborough County, Ayers’ family has lived in Tampa for two generations. Her father, Steve, served as a firefighter in the region. He also owned Ayers-Sierra Insurance. Ayers is married to Dan Crowe, a retired Air Force Senior Master First Sergeant and an attorney. They have three grown children.
