Judge Kathleen L. Sloan - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Kathleen L. Sloan is a judge for the 10th Judicial District Court of Kansas in Johnson County. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius on September 20, 2004.

Prior to her appointment, Sloan served as a District Court trustee in Johnson County since 1997. Before that, she was in private practice (1996 to 1997), including at Moriarty, Erker & Moore (1991 to 1995).

She received a B.A. from George Washington University in 1983. Sloan then completed a J.D. at University of Kansas School of Law in 1991. While a law student, she served as a law clerk for the 10th Judicial District (1988 to 1991).

Sloan received a gubernatorial appointment to serve as a member of the Kansas Citizen’s Justice Initiative in 1997. Her other memberships include the American Bar Association, the Kansas Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Foundation, the Earl E. O’Connor Inn of Court, the National Child Support Enforcement Association, the Kansas Child Support Enforcement Association, and the Johnson County CASA, Inc. Board of Directors (past president).

She has also been involved with the Overland Park South Rotary and served as a volunteer for Safehome and Pets for Life.

Sloan was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She is the mother of two children.
