Judge Karina E. Alomar - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Karina E. Alomar is a judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York, Queens County in New York. She was originally elected to serve as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Queens County in 2019. At the time of her election to the Civil Court, Judge Alomar held the distinction of being the first Puerto Rican woman to be elected to the bench in Queens County.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Alomar received her B.A. from Florida State University in 1995. She went on to earn her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1999.

Prior to her election to the Criminal Court, Alomar had served as the founder of Alomar and Associates since 2001. During her tenure in private practice, she specialized in divorce, family, and criminal cases.

She has also served as an adjunct instructor at LaGuardia Community College, where she has taught on the subjects of family law and legal research and writing.

Her memberships have included serving as the vice president of the New York State Bar Association, 11th Judicial District, the secretary of the Queens County Bar Association, and the president of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County. She has also served as a committee member on the Grievance Committee, 2nd Department, Appellate Division and a member of the Wood-Heights Democratic Club.

She has appeared as a guest commentator on a local radio program to discuss family law and domestic violence issues as well as conducted seminars at the YMCA of Long Island City on the topics of domestic violence and immigration.

Judge Alomar was born in Dover, New Jersey. Her mother hails from Manabi, Ecuador and her father is from Puerto Rico.
