Judge Joseph H. Lorintz - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Joseph H. Lorintz is a justice for the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench in 2017.

Lorintz earned a B.A. from Queens College in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at The John Marshall Law School in 1982.

He began his legal career as a law clerk at Axelrod and Hammer in 1981. The following year, he joined the Law Office of Gary D. Peters, where he worked as an associate until 1984. He then moved to Axelrod, Cornachio & Famighetti. He practiced there for three years before leaving to start his own private practice as a sole practitioner. Then, in 1990, Lorintz partnered with Friedman to start Lorintz & Friedman.

Lorintz returned to his own private practice in 1992, specializing in family, criminal, landlord/tenant, real estate, personal injury, bankruptcy, and estate matters. Then, just prior to his election to the bench, Lorintz served as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Randy Sue Marber of the Nassau County Supreme Court from 2007 to 2016.

His memberships have included the Jewish Lawyers Bar Association, the Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association. He has also served as president of the Jericho School Board as well as chair of the Oyster Bay Environmental Control Commission.

Lorintz is a founder of the Society to Preserve Underhill, the Long Island Drinking Water Coalition, and the Long Island Environmental Voters Forum.

He is a recipient of the Environmentalist of the Year Award from the Long Island Sierra Club, the Community Service Award from the Jericho/Brookville Lions Club, the Smart Growth Award from Vision Long Island, the Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award from the Old Westbury College Foundation, and the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Syosset-Woodbury Rotary Club.

Lorintz has taught as an adjunct professor at Adelphi University.

He is registered as a Democrat.
