Biography

The Hon. James A. Mangione is a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Jerry Brown in 2015, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Christine Koch Goldsmith.

Mangione earned a B.A. in history from the University of California, San Diego in 1977. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1981.

Mangione began his legal career as a partner at Mitchell & Mangione in 1981. He worked there for thirteen years before moving to Luna, Brownwood & Rice in 1994. During his five-year tenure at Luna, Brownwood & Rice, Mangione worked as a senior trial attorney. He then left the firm in 1999 in order to start his own private practice—the Law Offices of James A. Mangione. Then, in 2002, he joined Wingert, Grebing, Brubaker & Juskie as a partner, a position he held until his appointment to the bench.

Mangione is registered as a Democrat.
