Judge Gilbert L. Feltel: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Gilbert L. Feltel is a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Ron DeSantis on April 3, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. W. Gregg McCaulie.


The 4th Judicial Circuit encompasses Clay County, Duval County, and Nassau County.


Prior to his appointment, Feltel served as chief legal officer for the Jacksonville Port Authority since 2017. Before that, he was a partner at Tanner Bishop, where he specialized in transportation issues. Feltel has also served as an assistant state attorney in the Duval County State Attorney’s Office as well as an attorney at CSX Corp.


Feltel earned a J.D. from the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1993. He is Board Certified in Business Litigation by The Florida Bar.


His memberships have included the Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, the Jacksonville Chapter of the Federalist Society, the Professionalism Committee of the Jacksonville Bar Association, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit Historical Society.


He has also served as chairman of the Board for the Salvation Army of Northeast Florida, sat as a member on the Board of the 200 Club of Jacksonville, and served as a member of the National Rifle Association.


Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Feltel has lived in Florida for more than thirty-seven years. He is a member of the Christian Family Chapel in Jacksonville.


He is registered as a Republican.
