Biography

The Hon. Frederick L. Koberlein, Jr. is a judge for the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. He was elected to the bench in 2022, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Paul Bryan.

The 3rd Judicial Circuit encompasses Columbia County, Dixie County, Hamilton County, Lafayette County, Madison County, Suwannee County, and Taylor County.

Prior to his election, Koberlein was an attorney in the Koberlein Law Offices, a practice he opened in 2013. He supplemented his practice with service as the attorney of record for the Lake Shore Hospital Authority and the city attorney for Lake City, Fort White, Live Oak, White Springs, Madison, and Williston.

Koberlein earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida (1997) and an M.B.A. from the University of South Florida (2000). He spent time working with the Florida Department of Children and Families before completing a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 2003. He is Board Certified in City, County & Local Government Law by the Florida Bar.

After graduating from law school, Koberlein began his legal career as an assistant public defender with the Office of the Public Defender for the 3rd Judicial Circuit. He served in that capacity until 2007, at which time he entered into private practice at Robinson, Kennon & Kendron.

His memberships have included the Rotary Club of Lake City. He has also been involved with Habitat for Humanity.

He is a recipient of the President’s Pro Bono Service Award from the Florida Bar (2016).
