Judge F. Dana Winslow: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. F. Dana Winslow (Ret.) was a justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1997 and was retained in subsequent elections. His current term ended in 2013.


Winslow joined the judiciary as an associate village justice of the Old Westbury Village Court in 1991. He remained on the Village Court until his election to the Supreme Court.


Winslow received a B.A. from the American University in 1966. He went on to complete a J.D. at Catholic University School of Law in 1969.


After law school, he joined Beekman & Bogue as an associate. Then, in 1973, Winslow became special counsel at Sutter, Moffat, Yamelli & Zevin, where he practiced for five years. In 1980, Winslow entered into solo practice at his own law firm. He became a prosecuting attorney in the Village of Roslyn Harbor in 1988, and during that same time, he also served as a village attorney for Center Island (1988 to 1996) and a partner at Schiavetti, Geisler, Corgua, Soscia, Devito, Gabriele & Nicholson (1989 to 1996). Winslow also briefly served as a special county attorney in Hamilton County (1995 to 1996) and a town attorney for Lake Pleasant (1995 to 1996).


Winslow taught as an adjunct professor at St. John’s School of Business Law.


He was a past president of the Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Winslow is also the co-founder and president of the Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center and founder of the Long Island Riding Center for the Handicapped Association.
