Judge Edmund M. Dane - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Edmund M. Dane is a Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the Supreme Court bench in 2016. While on the Supreme Court, he has presided in the Matrimonial Center.

His judicial career began in 2007, when he was appointed by former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi to the Nassau County District Court. After serving a year on the District Court, Judge Dane was then elected to serve as a judge for the Nassau County Family Court. Then, in 2011, he was appointed to serve as the Supervising Judge of the Family Court in Nassau County by the Hon. Ann Pfau, former Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York. Justice Dane was serving in that capacity at the time of his election to the Supreme Court.

He received his B.A. from Queens College in 1978. Dane went on to earn his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1981.

After graduating from law school, Dane practiced briefly as an associate at Witchel and Abraham before becoming a managing partner at Dane and Dane in 1983. He continued to practice there until his appointment to the District Court in 2007.

Dane also served as an adjunct professor of law at Hofstra Law School and as a lecturer for the New York State Bar Association and the Nassau Academy of Law.

His memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, and the Nassau County Bar Association Matrimonial and Family Law Committees.

He was also the vice-president of the North Shore Synagogue and a board member and coach of the Syosset Baseball Association and the Syosset Youth Athletic Council.
