Judge Catherine M. Catlin - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Catherine M. Catlin is a judge for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Hillsborough County. She was elected to the bench in 2008 and re-elected in 2014 and 2020.

Over the course of her judicial career, Catlin has held assignments in the Family Law Division, the Probate, Guardianship & Trust Division, and the Criminal Division. She also sat as the associate administrative judge for the Domestic Relations and Domestic Violence Divisions (2011 to 2015).

Catlin earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami in 1982. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 1987. She is admitted to practice in Florida (1987) and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida (1988).

After graduating from law school, Catlin entered into private practice, specializing in family law matters. She started as an associate at Muga & Real and Garcia & Fields. Catlin then became a named partner at Catlin, Saxon, Tuttle & Evans.

Her memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Tampa Family Law Inn of Court (president), and the Penick American Inn of Court. She also sat on the Advisory Board of RVR Horse Rescue and the Board of Friends of Joshua House.

She is a recipient of the Leader in the Law Award from the Florida Association of Women Lawyers (2013) and the Commander’s Award from the United States Marine Corps Reserve (2012).

Catlin was born in Coral Gables, Florida. When not presiding over legal proceedings, she enjoys weightlifting, bowling, watching movies, and attending sporting events.
