Judge Aaron K. Bowden: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Aaron K. Bowden (Ret.) served as a judge for the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Bowden was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bob Martinez in 1989. He retired in 2009.


The 4th Judicial Circuit encompasses Clay County, Duval County, and Nassau County.


Prior to his appointment, Bowden was an attorney in private practice, a position he held since 1977.


Bowden earned a bachelor's degree in English and philosophy from Johns Hopkins University in 1964. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1966.


After graduating from law school, Bowden served with the Field Artillery 155 of the United States Army in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. Then, in 1970, he returned to Florida and became an assistant United States attorney with the Office of the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. He served in that capacity for two years, eventually leaving to become an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney for the 4th Judicial Circuit.


His memberships have included the Jacksonville Bar Association and the Chester Bedell American Inn of Court.


After retiring from the bench, he presided as a judge on a special foreclosure court in Duval County. The court was designed to fast-track foreclosure cases in an effort to reduce the number of cases in the county. The court was staffed with retired judges.
