The Hon.Vernon Butt (Ret.) was a district magistrate for the 26th Judicial District Court of Kansas. He was elected to the bench in 2004. Butt retired on January 11, 2021.
The 26th Judicial District includes Grant, Haskell, Morton, Seward, Stanton, and Stevens Counties.
He held an assignment in Stanton County. Prior to his election, he served as mayor, fire chief, emergency medical technician, and hunter safety instructor in Manter. Butt was also active with the local Boy Scouts.
He was born and raised in Garden City, Kansas, where he attended Garden City High School. Butt later served for four years in the United States Marine Corps. He and his wife, Leilah, have two children and several grandchildren. Longtime residents of Stanton County, Butt and his wife hoped to retire to a mountain property outside of Kansas.
He is registered as a Republican.
