The Hon. Terence P. Murphy is an acting justice for the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. Murphy was initially elected to the Nassau County District Court in 2010. Then, in 2015, he was elected to the Nassau County Court. At that time, he was appointed to the Supreme Court of Nassau County by Chief Administrative Judge A. Gail Prudenti.
Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the State University of New York at Old Westbury in 1988. He then completed a J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1993.
He began his legal career as a prosecutor for the Nassau County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency in 1994. Then, in 1997, he briefly worked as a court attorney for the Nassau County District Court. The following year, he joined the Nassau County Court as a law secretary for the Hon. Jack Mackston and the Hon. Jerald S. Carter. He served in that capacity until his election to the bench.
Murphy has been a member of the Nassau County Bar Association.
He was raised in Seaford, New York, where he attended St. William the Abbot School and Seaford High School. His father, the Hon. George A. Murphy, was a town councilman, state senator, and supreme court justice.
When Murphy was seventeen years old, he joined the United States Army and was deployed to Germany. He returned to the United States and worked as a mailman for the Seaford Post Office for eleven years. He has also been deployed to Kuwait, Bosnia, and Iraq.
His wife has worked as the Director of Financial Operations at Forest Hills Hospital.
Murphy is registered as a Republican.
