The Hon. Samuel L. Cappas is a judge for the Lake County Superior Court in Indiana. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mike Pence on October 3, 2013.
Cappas earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Indiana University Bloomington in 1983. He then completed a J.D. at Valparaiso University School of Law in 1986.
After graduating from law school, Cappas began his legal career as a deputy prosecuting attorney for the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1991, at which time he entered into private practice at Cappas & Jones (renamed Cappas & Associates). During his tenure in private practice, Cappas specialized in criminal defense matters.
