The Hon. Richard J. McCord is a judge for the Glen Cove City Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench in 2001 and re-elected in 2007 and 2013.
McCord earned a B.A. from Columbia University in 1977. He then completed a J.D. from Bridgeport Law School in 1980.
After graduating from law school, McCord began his legal career as an attorney in private practice, specializing in bankruptcy matters in Glen Cove (1981 to 1989) and East Norwich (1988 to 1999). For part of this time, he also served as a Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 Panel trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of New York.
Then, in 1999, he joined the Bankruptcy Group at Certilman Balin, where he has worked as a partner and a practicing attorney.
McCord served as Deputy Mayor of the City of Glen Cove from 1980 to 1983. In 1985, he became chairman of the Glen Cove Housing Authority. He held this position until 1987, when he became an associate judge of the Glen Cove City Court.
His memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. He was also chairman of the YMCA of Long Island Corporate Board and the Board of Managers of the YMCA at Glen Cove.
