The Hon. Paul L. Meli is a judge for the Nassau County District Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench in 2016.
Meli earned a B.A. from St. John’s University in 1972. He then completed a J.D. at New York Law School in 1980.
After graduating from law school, Meli began his legal career as an associate at Wilson, Elser, Edelman & Dicker. Eight years later, he moved to Kroll & Tract, where he worked as a managing partner until 1991. At that time, he joined Roemer & Featherstonhaugh as a senior trial associate. He worked in that capacity for three years, eventually transferring to the Law Office of Joseph D’Elia. Then, in 2000, Meli concluded his private sector work by becoming a managing attorney at Cuomo LLC.
Meli entered the public sector in 2013. He started as a deputy county comptroller for the field audit and special projects division of the Office of the Nassau County Comptroller. The following year, he joined the Office of the Nassau County Attorney, where he served as its litigation bureau chief until 2015.
His memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. He has served as a trustee of the North Shore Historical Museum and the Glen Cove Public Library. He has also served as an advisory council member for the Nassau County Office of Aging.
