The Hon. Meryl J. Berkowitz is an Acting Justice of the Nassau County Supreme Court, Integrated Domestic Violence Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. She was appointed to the Supreme Court by the Chief Administrative Judge in 2005. She was originally elected to serve as a judge for the Nassau County Court in 2000 and was re-elected to the County Court bench in 2010.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Berkowitz received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College in 1977. She went on to earn her J.D. from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1981.
Prior to her election to the County Court, Berkowitz had worked as an attorney in private practice. She was also an attorney at The Legal Aid Society from 1981 to 1996.
She has been a member of the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association.
Judge Berkowitz is a lifelong resident of Nassau County.
