The Hon. Margaret L. Alford (Ret.) was a district magistrate for the 26th Judicial District Court of Kansas. She was elected to the bench in 1992. Alford retired on October 2, 2020.
The 26th Judicial District includes Grant, Haskell, Morton, Seward, Stanton, and Stevens Counties.
Alford held an assignment for twenty-eight years in Grant County and was tasked with overseeing the child in need of care and juvenile offender dockets in Seward County.
She received a B.S. in human resource management from Friends University and a master’s degree in adult education from Newman University.
Alford, a past president of the Kansas District Magistrate Judges Association, was awarded its Lee E. Nusser Award in 2009.She also served as a member of the Kansas Supreme Court's Judges Manual Committee and District Magistrate Judges Certification Committee.
Alford originates from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and relocated to Garden City, Kansas, in the early 70s, eventually settling in Ulysses. She and her husband have five children and several grandchildren. Following her retirement, Alford continued to preside as a municipal judge for the City of Ulysses.
