Hon. Jon K. Parsley is a district judge for the First Judicial District in Oklahoma. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mary Fallin on April 4, 2014, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Greg Zigler (Ret.).
The First Judicial District includes the District Courts in Beaver, Cimarron, Harper, and Texas Counties. On the bench, Parsley is tasked with presiding over all felonies and civil cases throughout the District.
Prior to beginning his judicial career, he managed his own private solo practice for eleven years. Before that, Parsley spent nine years in private practice with David K. Petty, P.C. in Guymon. His practice focused on oil and gas, real estate, and contracts. Parsley also handled civil and criminal matters for both plaintiff and defense. He entered into private practice in 2003.
Parsley received a B.A. in political science from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1991. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1994.
Parsley, a past president of the Oklahoma Bar Association, also served on several of its committees and task forces, including the Professional Responsibilities Commission and the Mentorship Task Force. In addition, he was elected chairperson of the State Bar’s Board of the Young Lawyer’s Division (2002) and sat on the Board of Governors for seven years. Parsley was named president of the Oklahoma Bar Association in 2009. For his service, he received the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award (2003) and President’s Award (2007).
Parsley was born in Guymon, Oklahoma.
