The Hon. Jeffrey E. Goering is a judge for the 18th Judicial District Court of Kansas. He was elected to the bench in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020.
The 18th Judicial District encompasses Sedgwick County.
Over the course of his judicial career, Goering has held assignments on the Kansas Supreme Court, joining its justices in their review, deliberation, and decision drafting of a case on its summary calendar.
Goering earned a bachelor’s degree from Westmont College in 1988. He then completed a J.D. at Washburn University School of Law in 1990.
He is licensed to practice in Kansas (1991), the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
After graduating from law school, Goering began his legal career as an assistant district attorney for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1992, at which time he entered into private practice in Leavenworth. During his tenure there, he supplemented his practice with service as a municipal judge for the City of Leavenworth. Then, in 1996, Goering relocated his practice to Wichita.
His memberships have included the Kansas Sentencing Commission (2003 to 2004) and the Kansas House of Representatives (2003 to 2004).
He is registered as a Republican.
