The Hon. Jared B. Johnson is a judge for the 28th Judicial District Court of Kansas. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Mark Parkinson on November 10, 2010, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Daniel L. Hebert.
The 28th Judicial District encompasses Ottawa County and Saline County. Over the course of his judicial career, Johnson was selected to sit with the Kansas Supreme Court, hearing oral arguments in four cases on the court’s docket on October 30, 2019.
Prior to his appointment, Johnson was an attorney at Clark, Mize & Linville, a law firm based in Salina. He represented clients in municipal, criminal, probate, and estate planning matters.
Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology from the University of Kansas in 1997. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Kansas School of Law in 2001.
After graduating from law school, Johnson served as a prosecutor and defense counsel for the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, holding assignments as Wing Staff Agency Company Grade OFficer of the Quarter.
His memberships have included the Kansas Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has also been involved with the Board of the Salina YMCA and the Ottawa County Indigent Defense Panel.
Raised in Stilwell, Kansas, Johnson attended Blue Valley High School. He and his wife, Leslie, have three children. Leslie works as an attorney in Salina.
