The Hon. James M. Darcy is a judge for the Nassau County District Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was initially appointed to the District Court by former Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano in 2015. Judge Darcy was then elected to the seat in 2016.
He is a registered Republican.
Judge Darcy graduated with his B.A. in English from Fordham University in 1974. He then received his M.A. in English from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1976. Darcy went on to earn his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1980.
Prior to his appointment to the District Court, he served as an attorney in private practice for thirty-four years. While in private practice, Darcy served as an assemblyman with the New York State General Assembly and served a four-year term as Mayor of the Village of Valley Stream. He also served as a deputy village attorney and village prosecutor in Valley Stream.
In 2000, Darcy became a council member for the Town of Hempstead.
During his tenure as Valley Stream Mayor (1995 to 1999), he was instrumental in developing an ethics code for future elected officials and also spearheaded a project that sought to inject revenue into local businesses.
His memberships have included the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge #2164, the Valley Stream Taxpayers Association, the Father Carroll Knights of Columbus, the Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Kiwanis Club of Woodside, and the League of Women Voters of the Greater Five Towns.
Judge Darcy has lived in the Village of Valley Stream since the age of two.
