The Hon. Howard E. Sturim is an acting justice for the Nassau County Supreme Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. He was initially elected to the Nassau County Court in 2016.
Sturim earned a bachelor’s degree from the New York Institute of Technology in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1990.
He began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Office of the District Attorney of Nassau County in 1991. During his tenure there, he prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases, rising through the ranks to become the head of its Arson Unit and Major Offenses Unit. Then, in 2004, he joined the New York State Court of Claims as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Alan L. Honorof. He served in that capacity until his election to the bench.
