The Hon. Ellen R. Greenberg is a judge for the Nassau County Family Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the Family Court bench in 2007. During her tenure on the bench, Judge Greenberg was appointed to serve as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court in 2015 and as the supervising judge of the Nassau County Family Court in 2016.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Greenberg graduated with her B.S. in Spanish education from the State University of New York at Albany in 1978. She went on to earn her J.D. from Yeshiva University, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1981.
After graduating from law school, Greenberg began her legal career as an attorney in private practice.
Four years later, she joined the New York State Unified Court System, where she served as a law assistant in the Family Court. Then, in 1987, Greenberg became a deputy Brooklyn borough chief with the New York City Law Department’s Family Court Division. After serving ten years in that capacity, she then became the Bronx borough chief for the same division. During her tenure with the Family Court Division, Greenberg specialized in juvenile delinquency matters. She held that position until her election to the Family Court in 2007.
Her memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, and the Association of Family Court Judges of the State of New York. Judge Greenberg has also served as the co-chair of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative Collaborative and was on the executive committee of the Cardozo School of Law Alumni Association.
She speaks fluent Spanish.
