Biography

The Hon. Elizabeth Fox-McDonough is a judge for the Nassau County District Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the District Court bench in 2017. During her tenure on the bench, Judge Fox-McDonough was appointed to serve as the supervising judge of the District Court in Nassau County in 2019.

She is a registered Democrat.

Judge Fox-McDonough graduated with her B.A. in political science from St. John’s University in 1984. She went on to earn her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 1987.

After graduating from law school, Fox-McDonough joined the Queens County District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney in 1987. During her ten-year tenure with the D.A.’s office, some of her assignments included serving as a prosecutor in the Special Victims Bureau, where she helped prosecute sex crimes, crimes against children, and elderly and domestic violence matters, and as a senior assistant district attorney in its Appeals Bureau, where she handled appeals involving felony convictions. She also served as a supervisor assigned to the D.A.’s Domestic Violence Unit.

Then, in 1997, Fox-McDonough joined the New York State Unified Court System, where she first served as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Arthur Cooperman with the Queens County Supreme Court, Criminal Term. She also served as a court attorney to the Hon. Barry Kron from 2006 to 2014 after a brief stint as a prosecutor in the Nassau County Traffic Parking Violations Agency from 2004 to 2006.

Just prior to her election to the District Court, Fox-McDonough had served as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Norman St. George with the Nassau County District Court beginning in 2014.

She has also taught legal research and legal writing as an adjunct professor at Queens College, Nassau Community College, and Molloy College.

Her memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County and Queens County Catholic Lawyers Guilds, the Queens County District Attorney’s Association, and the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association. She was also a past president of the Nassau County District Court Board of Judges.

At the time of her election to the bench, Judge Fox-McDonough resided in Hyde Park, New York, with her husband, who serves as a court officer, and their daughter.
