The Hon. Cory M. Chandler is a magistrate judge for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She was appointed to the bench by Chief Judge Anita Josey-Herring on July 20, 2023.
Prior to her appointment, Chandler presided as an administrative law judge with the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings, where she heard matters in the Licensing and Enforcement Division. Before joining the bench, she was general counsel at the District of Columbia Child and Family Services Agency. During her tenure, Chandler was a member of the District of Columbia Child Fatality Review Committee.
She also worked for fifteen years with the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia, having joined the office in 1999. Chandler began as an inaugural candidate working on neglect and appellate briefs in the Appellate Division for the Honors Program. She later moved to the Child Protection Section as an assistant attorney general before becoming chief of the Child Protection Section, IV. Chandler was quickly elevated to assistant deputy attorney general and then deputy attorney general of the Family Services Division. She also received a mayoral appointment to serve as chair of the District of Columbia Child Support Guideline Commission.
Chandler received a B.S. in business administration from Towson State University in 1996. She then completed a J.D. at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, in 1999.
Her memberships include the National Association of Women Judges, the Washington Bar Association Judicial Council, and the National Bar Association. Chandler has also been involved with the National Federation of the Blind Maryland (National Harbor Chapter).
She is a native of Washington, D.C. Chandler is the mother of one daughter.
