The Hon. Bryan K. Griffin is a magistrate for the Sumter County Magistrate Court in South Carolina. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jim Hodges in 2002.
The magistrate court presides over landlord/tenant hearings, summons and complaint cases (to claim disputed funds), claim and delivery cases (to reclaim property), and public sales of abandoned vehicles. Its magistrates also hear criminal and traffic cases, issue warrants and set bonds, and hold preliminary hearings and transfer cases for the county.
Prior to his appointment, Griffin was an associate at Robinson, McFadden & Moore, a law firm he joined in 2001. During his tenure there, he specialized in collections matters, handling suits on account, actions for claim and delivery, foreclosures, and foreign judgment actions.
Griffin earned a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Presbyterian College in 1996. He then completed a J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1999.
After graduating from law school, Griffin began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Howard P. King of the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court of South Carolina. He served in that capacity until 2000, at which time he became a judicial law clerk to the Hon. M. Duane Shuler of the South Carolina Court of Appeals.
His memberships have included the Richland County Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Paralegal Advisory Board of Central Carolina Technical College.
