The Hon. Andrea C. Phoenix is a judge for the Nassau County District Court in the Tenth Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the bench in 2007, where she has served as the presiding judge of the Nassau County Mental Health Court and the Drug Treatment Court.
Phoenix earned a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University. She then completed a master’s degree in communication and education from The Ohio State University as well as a J.D. from the Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law.
Prior to her election to the bench, Phoenix worked as an attorney in private practice from 1992 to 2006, specializing in family law matters. For part of this time, she also served as a staff attorney with Nassau Suffolk Law Services.
Phoenix was president of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, and the New York Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. She has also served on the New York State Unified Court System Family Violence Task Force and the Nassau County Family Court Children’s Center Advisory Committee.
Her other memberships have included the Amistad Black Bar Association, the Theodore Roosevelt American Inn of Court, the Jewish Lawyers Association of Nassau County, the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association, and the Nassau Community College Paralegal Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Antioch Baptist Church of Hempstead, the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and The Links, Incorporated.
She is registered as a Democrat.
