Hon. AmyMarie Travis is a judge for the Jackson County Superior Court in Indiana. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Eric Holcomb in 2018, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Bruce Markel, III (Ret.). Travis holds the distinction of being the first female judge to serve in Jackson County.
She hears all criminal misdemeanor cases, small claims, traffic infractions, civil cases, civil plenaries, and mortgage foreclosures.
Prior to her appointment, Travis was the Prosecuting Attorney for the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, having been appointed to the position in 2012 and re-elected in 2014. She started in the office as a chief deputy prosecutor in 2007.
Travis received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. She went on to complete a J.D. at Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 1993.
Travis is a past president of the Jackson County Drug-Free Council and served on the board of trustees at the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Her other memberships include the Brownstown Tri Kappa Philanthropic Sorority, the Brownstown Exchange Club, and the Spurs and Wheels Saddle Club.
Travis was raised near Bloomington, Indiana. She and her husband, Bryant Lucas, have two grown sons. When not presiding over legal matters, she enjoys spending time on her small farm with her horses and rescue dogs.
